Central Arcade

The Central Arcade, Hope Street was built in 1891 (the date appears on the decorative gable) on the site of No. 58 Hope Street which was a public house, The King’s Head from c.1711 until c.1745 when the name was moved to premises across the street. In the mid-19th century it was the premises of John Oark, tailor, who served as Mayor of Wrexham in 1860-1. The shop was demolished to make way for the entrance. The arcade was developed by the Wrexham Arcade Company, and provided 18 lock-up shops, offices and a photographic studio.
